The Estuary

Estero Custodio

See Playa Las Tortugas from a new perspective.

Just around the corner.

Officially called Estero Custodio, the estuary is a fine place for kayaking, late afternoon swims, fishing, adventure and meeting locals. The estuary is full of birds and fish. Local fisherman come down to cast their nets. An occasional kayaker plies the waters.

Kayaking.

A kayak is an ideal way to explore the estuary. Sand bars emerge at low tide. Mangroves full of birds and crabs line the estuary. As you paddle upstream the waterway becomes more narrow. Watch the sun set reflect on the distant Sierra Madre.

Fishing.

Spin reels, fly rods and nets are all welcome in the estuary. Wade into the warm water, cast from the beach or try your luck from a kayak. Within the waters swim snook, snapper, ladyfish, jacks, and many others.

Fishing is a great way to meet the local Mexican folks. They’re happy to show you what they’re fishing with and photos of what they’re catching.

Big Rock.

Just before where the estuary meets the ocean is big rock. It’s about 6 feet high. Climb as high as you like and splash into the deep water below.
